Vision

Our society wouldn’t work without civil engineering infrastructure supports our daily life-roads, railways, airports, hospitals and sports stadium. Civil engineering mainly focuses on structures of buildings, damp, roads, railways etc. Motive behind to start civil engineering course is to develop Entrepreneurs, Civil Engineer and consultant who design or build civil works to make the world more agreeable place to live and also serve our nation by joining Military Engineering.


Mission

Civil Engineering is the oldest and most respected discipline of all engineering fields. This is a broad field of Engineering that deals with planning, construction and maintenance of permanent structures including air ports, bridge, canals, dam docks, harbors, coastal protections, hotels, power stations, railway and roads, warehouses, water supply & waste disposal systems & treatment plants.

Motive to start Civil engineering course is to develop Entrepreneurs, Civil Engineer and consultant who design or build civil works to make the world more agreeable place to live and also serve our nation by joining Military Engineering services.

How about the longest bridge? What if you could be the person who figured out how to span the continent with an interconnected transit system, which allowed people to travel from New York to Los Angeles without a single stop light? The world of Civil Engineering is a world of creating things that others say can’t be created, making the structures that define our modern world.

Other than military engineering, civil engineering is the oldest engineering discipline in the world, with a history that goes back over 4,000 years. The royal engineers of Pharaoh’s court devised the pyramids of Egypt as a final resting place for their king. Since then, civil engineers have created structures which have marveled the world; everything from the Great Wall of China, to the Colosseum in Italy, to the Taj Majal in India to the pyramid of Chichen Itza, Mexico. In fact, all seven of the Wonders of the World were designed and created by civil engineers.


About Department

The Department of Civil Engineering at AITR is a relatively new department, and is being started functioning from July 2007. The department has people of eminence from academia as well as industry. Civil Engineering is the study of land, transportation, water, energy, and sanitation systems, within a complex social, political, economic, and environmental context. It is about community service, development, and improvement.

The Department of Civil Engineering offers undergraduate course with emphasis on fundamental theory and practice in Civil Engineering keeping in view the current and continuously changing scenarios in this discipline. The Department has established state-of-art laboratories which can provide opportunities for the students at all levels to get acquainted with the latest developments in various avenues of Civil Engineering.

In addition to Teaching and Instruction, the faculty is also engaged in active research with an aim to generate innovative concepts and ideas or apply the existing technologies to new applications.


Civil Engineering – Career Opportunities

• Structural engineering – creating the structural elements of design, whether for bridges, or skyscrapers. Probably the oldest single specialty in civil engineering, going all the way back to Pharaoh’s pyramids.
• Geotechnical engineering – concerned with the rock and soil which supports the structures that other civil engineers design.
• Environmental engineering – designing systems for the treatment of chemical, biological and thermal wastes.
• Materials engineering – these are the experts on the various materials which other civil engineers use for their projects.
• Water resource engineering – concerned with the collection and management of water. Some of the earliest known civil engineers were the Roman engineers who created the aqueducts.
• Earthquake engineering – a specialty dealing with creating buildings and other structures which can withstand the stresses of earthquakes without falling.
• Coastal engineering – managing the coastal areas of our country, including marshlands. Coastal engineers create defenses against flooding and erosion.
